November is Coming

I have managed to recruit a few people into attempting to write a novel this November as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I had talked it up a bit this summer, when I was in the throes of Camp NaNoWriMo and loving/hating every minute. When I recently made a tentative offer of “hey, if anyone is interested in writing a novel in November, let me know and we can encourage each other or something”, I was pretty shocked that anyone took me up on it! Right now, there are two of us signed up on the NaNoWriMo website and plotting away, and three more who are seriously considering the undertaking! I am planning to have a get-together in October to give them little care packages with things like a little notebook, a NaNoWriMo button, and some printed-out character-building worksheets. We can discuss the fears people are having before starting, and talk about writing resources. Of course, the most important thing for everyone to remember is that no one knew what they were doing when they wrote their first novel! Some of us still don’t know what we are doing, after the first one got written.
